Editorial Services – Will Wain

Need an editor for your novel, thesis, story, online content? I offer a full range of editorial services based on over twenty years’ experience of copy-editing, proofreading, substantive editing and publishing.

About Me

I grew up in Oxford and now live in Snowdonia. I’ve been doing editorial work for at least twenty years as a freelance, and ran Smaller Sky Books for eight of those. At the moment I’m working on a sea story, the mystery of the Welsh Marie Celeste.  November 2019 update: I’ve recently finished helping Dr C of London on a long project producing the illustrated history of a French village from 1635-2002 and am now working on a maritime thriller set in the 1980s.

References for Will Wain Editorial

I always use Will for my books. He is professional, fastidious, an expert editor. Chris Clunn, photographer and author. Web:  www.chrisclunn.com  Books: Meirionydd (2012); World in a Box (2019); Semana Santa (forthcoming).

Will has been of immense help at every stage of writing and publishing my ‘Pages of Time’ series. His insights, advice and expertise have proven invaluable and I look forward to working with him again on my next project. Highly recommended. Damian Knight, author of Pages of Time series of young adult thrillers. Web: Damian Knight, author

Technical Stuff

Don’t have a digital copy of your work? I am familiar with on-screen or paper editing alike and I can arrange low-cost PDF scanning for you. With a Master’s Degree in computing and knowledge of most design packages, Photoshop and its equivalents, MS Office and open source similar, I’m fine with the “technical side” and have designed and now administer a number of websites. I think of myself, however, as an old school editor: happy to use the British Standard proofreading symbols, and I remember when cut and paste actually meant scissors and glue

Historic Vessel Vega

This beautiful ship, the Morgenster, is the closest thing you could see to the sailing vessel Resolven, found abandoned in Newfoundland waters in the 1880s. She is brig-rigged, like the Resolven, and of a similar size. Seeing her under sail in this film gives me an idea of how my great-grandfather's ship might have looked at sea ... See more

Now here is a sight to stir your blood and make you long to be back at sea again. Isn't she a beauty?

The old Custom House, Harbour Grace. Stormy day in Newfoundland today. My ancestor's ship Resolven set sail from this town on her ill-fated last voyage, maybe in weather such as this.
